Urban Native Magazine and Regina Aboriginal Professionals Association have launched a photograph challenge (for Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) in honour of National Aboriginal History Month. They’re using the Twitter hashtag #NAHM2015PhotoADay.
Here at the Cree Literacy Network, we’ve decided to play along, by gathering the images suggested – but (with help from Solomon Ratt) captioning them in Cree.
For Day Twenty-one, the word is Quillwork:

A great big thank you to Doris Saskatchewan of Maskwachis who was demonstrating quillwork on Saturday at Edmonton’s Aboriginal Day celebration at Louise McKinney Park. She very graciously permitted me to photograph her completing a pair of earrings. I also learned that the quills she and her friends collect and dye themselves are nicer to work with than the kind you can get commercially, and that they still put the quills in their mouths to make them pliable enough to bend nicely.
