Truth and Reconciliation
Truth: Children were taken away;
Truth: Parents had their children taken away from them;
Truth: Some children never went home;
Truth: Children were punished when they spoke their languages;
Truth: Some children were raped;
Truth: Some children were killed;
Truth: Children lost their languages;
Truth: Children lost their cultures;
Truth: reconciliation will not happen until the churches and government are accountable to these truths.
Photo: All Saints Residential School, Prince Albert, Saskatchewan which ran from 1947 to 1997. Solomon Ratt was a student there when this photo was taken in 1965. This photo captures the stark nature of the school, created from a former military base. The children’s dorms were former barracks. (photo PADH 23346/Prince Albert Daily Herald).
