Congratulations to Solomon Ratt and Arok Wolvengrey on a great interview about the First Nations Language Readers Series they did together with CBC “Saskatchewan Weekend” host Shauna Powers. kimamihcihinân: You make us proud! Through the interview, they tie together the threads the Cree Literacy Network values most:
- The significance of Indigenous languages across Canada,
- The importance of reading and writing in those languages,
- The deep nurturing value of reading in general, and reading to children,
- The hope of inspiring others to read and write their birthright languages for themselves and for their children.
And Solomon even gives a bilingual reading of his made-up legend of “Buffalo Wings” that appears in the fourth volume of the series, Woods Cree Stories. Powers also alludes (in her comments about John Wayne) to Sol’s story, “I’m Not an Indian” which appears Funny LIttle Stories, the first volume of the series.
