Falynn Baptiste 2022: nîki / Home

Congratulations to Falynn Baptiste as she prepares to launch her new album, nîki / Home. This new album features original writing in English and Cree, along with Gospel classics in Cree (some in beautiful new incarnations). Falynn says:

I wanted to take a language that was perhaps unfamiliar to many (both Indigenous and non-Indigenous alike) and create an opportunity to connect with the language; and in doing so create a sense of wonder and curiosity.”

From YouTube, here is the official video of her original song, “Here On Earth.”

This is a wonderful new treasure to add to last year’s Christmas album A Cree Christmas – kimâmawi-pimohtânaw (2021). Both albums can be purchased from her website as CDs and for download, and you can listen to samples there. Falynn has also shared a number of her Christmas recordings here at Cree Literacy. You can find them by searching her name (click the magnifying glass, above, then type “Falynn”).

You might even attend the in-real-life official release concert on December 17th (lucky you!) Find details at the link, or see the poster at the head of this post. Falynn’s own invitation makes me feel a little envious:

If you’re in the Saskatoon area, join me for a beautiful night of songs and story at The Refinery (off Broadway Ave.) I will be joined by local folk artist, Gabe Penna. It is sure to be a beautiful evening of music from my new album, Home and of course songs of the season.
