Sweetgrass Knowledge Keeper and Medicine Man Wes Fineday recently told me, “We talk about saving our language, but we never talk about why!” In two remarkable podcasts, he begins to answer this question, speaking eloquently about humanity – and particularly the Cree – as Sacred Beings whose traditional connection to spirit needs to be restored. For far too many, that connection with the sacred has been lost as a consequence of the loss of sacred stories, and loss of the Cree language through which they were preserved and conveyed.
With so many – especially the young – living in obliviousness to their need for this connection, Wes argues, “Now is the time for stories to be set free. Young people require these stories for guidance.” Not least, they need this knowledge to answer the deepest of existential questions: “Who am I?”
Wes was sought out in 2024 by British homeopath Atiq Ahmad Bhatti who asked to record him for his UK Health Radio series “Homeopathy Health”. Wes is featured in episodes 68 and 107 of the series, but Bhatti expresses his hope that they can create more such episodes together.
Podcasts are available through many podcast hosting platforms, but Wes has given his blessing for us to present and maintain the recordings here, where they can be kept as a message of hope, and, perhaps, a step towards reconnection.
