Blanche Cowley-Head has some impressive research credentials – and a whole lot of experience, too. She posted this well crafted guide to the publishing process recently on her FaceBook group First Nation History Research Group (Treaties 1 – 6), and kindly agreed to let me share it here.
Blanche is from Opaskwayak Cree Nation of Treaty 5, and her reserarch interests centre on First Nations mainly within the contemporary boundaries of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Montana. She does research in community history, First Nation and Métis genealogy, Treaty and Indian Status, Indian Residential Schools, as well as Cree language. (I think she’d make my publishing profs from SFU proud!)
Blanche writes:
I have been fielding calls by various individuals and groups regarding the steps and costs involved in taking control of our own First Nation publishing projects. I have put together this talking sheet that I use when I am going through the particulars of a client’s needs.
I encourage First Nations to dive into the world of publishing and I look forward to seeing more of our self-published products in the marketplace.
