When we were at Sweetgrass First Nation for their Cultural Camp in July, Aaron Fay and I were privileged to help restore an all-but-forgotten collection of Cree syllabic texts gathered in 1925 by linguist Leonard Bloomfield, to ancestors of the original storytellers.
Last week, at the 57th Algonquian Conference hosted by the University of Winnipeg, we had our first opportunity to tell the story with pride.
The PowerPoint presented at the conference is included here with images, and text. Along with our friend and colleague, Sweetgrass Traditional Knowledge Keeper Wes Fineday, we look forward to many new chapters in the life of these stories, now coming home to the people to whom they truly belong.
