Dictionary of Moose Cree: 4th Edition Launch

Sincere congratulations to Moose Cree First Nation as they celebrate the launch of an incredible 4th edition of the Dictionary of Moose Cree.

Special congratulations go to Geraldine Govender, MCFN’s Director of Language and Cultural Programs who has overseen all four editions (the first in 2014). And of course, our congratulations also go to the finely tuned engine that has driven all this work, our friend, linguist, lexicographer and medical doctor, Kevin Brousseau. (I’m a bit saddened to hear that he’s too busy at the clinic to even consider a celebrity book tour.)

I’d like to take this moment to honour the Moose Cree Elders who contributed to this 4th edition (many contributed to earlier editions as well). I’ve been lucky enough to meet a few of them during visits to Timmins. Those who have gone ahead have left behind a gift of language that will nurture many generations to come.
