It’s always a thrill to play along with Julie Flett as she imagines Cree content for her wonderful, gentle books for kids. Last week’s special thrill was answering the doorbell to discover pre-release copies of her latest beauty: We All Love. When, in the course of writing to thank and congratulate her, Julie’s own pre-release copies arrived at her door, it turned into a long-distance, two-conspirator, virtual book launch celebration.
Pre-release copies reached Solomon Ratt the same day (he is, after all, a third conspirator). Sol responded by producing an audio pronunciation key for the Cree names of all the animals from Julie illustrated, even including the Cree “love words” from Julie’s letter to the reader.
