We invite you to join us this April at the Edmonton Convention Centre as we gather in the spirit of language, healing, and collective strength. This year’s Gathering centers the deep relationship between language and well-being, honouring how our languages nurture connection across mind, body, spirit, and land.
The SILR Gathering is a safe and welcoming space where traditional knowledge and modern innovation meet. Together, we will share language learning and teaching strategies, raise awareness about revitalization efforts, strengthen relationships, and build lasting communities of practice rooted in respect and reciprocity.
We are honoured to welcome:
• Keynote Address by Dr. Lorna Wanosts’a7 Williams
• MC and Performance by Wayne Jackson
• Youth Presentation by Roberta Alook
• Entertainment by Darla Daniels
• Opening Drum by the River Cree Drum Group
• Presentations by leading language revitalization warriors from across Nations
This year’s Gathering also includes:
• A vibrant Youth Space featuring immersive Virtual Reality demonstrations by the Urban Society for Aboriginal Youth
• Incredible Indigenous vendors
• Hands-on beading activities
• An Elders Wellness Space offering intentional care and comfort for our beloved Elders
• And new this year: Dr. Darlene Auger’s Wîwîp’son Indigenous Therapeutic Swing
From ceremony to technology, from classroom strategies to community planning, SILR 2026 is a space for learning, connecting, and moving forward together.
Together, we honour the wisdom carried in our languages and the healing they continue to bring to our people and lands.

This gathering sounds like a meaningful opportunity to support Indigenous language revitalization efforts. It’s inspiring to see initiatives that bring people together around shared values of mutual support and cultural reclamation.
