I am so very proud to share news today from Algoma University of well deserved attention for my long-time friend and role-model, Dr Patricia Ningewance Nadeau CM. Through the years i’ve been observing her successes supporting reclamation and revitalization of Anishinaabemowin through standard spelling, I have continued to do my best to carry her ideas forward into the Cree context, where they are every bit as relevant. It is my honour to see them flourishing here, as well.
Pat’s energetic, determined, and unceasing efforts to support Anishinaabemowin as “All One Language” shared across a diverse dialect continuum, seeks to unify and strengthen the language community as a whole, creating resources to be shared across the dialect continuum that has been splintered and weakened through colonial interferencee. Her “Hundred Year Plan” for language reclamation lays out a model for making best use of the irreplaceable resources currently available, in order to build foundations for future generations.
