kîspin kimîywêyihtên / If you’re happy and you know it

Thanks to Dolores Greyeyes Sand, we have an older translation of “If you’re happy and you know it.” This one comes from a booklet of Cree Songs for Kids put together all the way back in the 1970s by the late Freda Ahenakew, and her late mentor, Ida McLeod. You can tell kids this song is even older than the Internet!

Brian MacDonald’s version differs only a little from this one, though the tune is the same. This one also includes the repetition of command at the end of each verse, that usually leads to lots of laughter.
