Cree Text English Text p.1 nicâpân awa nikâwiy ohkoma. My câpân is my mother’s grandmother. nîsta mîna ocâpâna. I am her câpân, too. ‘nicâpân’ anima ê-isiyihkâtitoyâhk. Câpân is the name we call each other. p.2 mistikokamikohk ê-wîkit. She lives in a log house. ‘câpân wîki’ mâna nititwânân. We usually call it “Câpân’s home.” p.4 nimosôm ana pêyak otawâsimisa, nîsosâp ê-ihtasicik. My mosôm is one of her twelve children. ‘nôsisim’ mâna nititik. He calls me nôsisim. nicâpân ayinânêw kî-otânisiw êkwa nêwo kî-okosisiw. My câpân had eight daughters and four sons. kahkiyaw êwakonik ‘nôhkomak mîna nimosômak’ nitisiyihkâtâwak. I call them all my kohkoms and mosôms. ‘nôsisim,’ nititikwak mâna. They all call me nôsisim. p.7 nôhkomak êkwa nimosômak kî-mâmawi-wâskahikanihkawêwak nicâpâna. My kohkoms and mosôms all worked together to build the house for my câpân. p.9 owâskahikanihk mâna mâwacihtâw mihcêt kîkwaya. In her house, she likes to gather many things. mâka nisto kîkwaya nawac miywêyihtam ta-mâwacihtât. There are three things she likes to gather most of all. p.10 owâskahikanihk, masinahikana wiya pêyak kîkway. In her house, one thing she likes to collect is books. âtiht ôhi masinahikana kâ-kî-masinahahk. These are some of the books she wrote in Cree. nistam kâ-awâsisîwit nicâpân kî-nêhiyawêw. Cree is the language my câpân learned as a child. p.12 pêyak masinahikanihk wîhcikâtêwa âcimowina atâhkakohp iskonikanihk ohci, itê kâ-kî-nihtâwikit nicâpân. One book is full of stories about Atahkakoop First Nation, where my câpân was born. wiya êkwa otôtêma kî-masinahamwak. She wrote it with her best friend. Page 13 owâskahikanihk, miywêyihtam mîna ka-mâwasakonahk masinipayiwina. In her house, she also likes to gather pictures. âtiht ôhi masinipêhikêwina otôtêma ê-kî-itôtamiyit. Some are paintings done by friends. mihcêt kotaka masinipayiwina. Many others are photographs. p.16 mâka, owâskahikanihk, kî-mâwaci-miywêyihtam ta-mâwacihât … But, in her house, what she likes to gather most of all … p.18 … mihcêt otawâsimisa, … is her many children, ôsisima, her nôsisims, mîna ocâpâna. and her câpâns.
